BBC's Bodyguard has been one of the most satisfying series I've seen so far, this year. Over six episodes, they delivered a Limited Series that kept you on the edge of your seat and wondering what was next for Richard Madden's David Budd. David meets up with Julia's PA, Chanel, who was fired in the first episode because he was suspicious of her involvement in the bombings and he was right. She had a hand in it. Chanel set David up and he ended up getting ambushed and kidnapped by the leader of the criminal group, Luke Aitkens. The police are finally able to piece the puzzle and they findd out that the ex-soldier who tried to shoot Julia was David's friend and this raises an alarm. They're convinced that Budd was indeed behind the bombing. Budd wakes up alone and realizes that he is strapped to a bomb vest with his thumb taped to the activating button. He is unaware that he is currently being investigated by the police and uses someone's phone to call for help but it becomes clear to him that they are there to eliminate him, not to help.
The next few minutes involve very intense conversations between the police, Budd and his ex-wife. David is trying to explain to the police but they're finding it hard to believe him because he hid a lot of evidence from them. Vicky, David's ex-wife decides to act as a shield to stop the police from shooting David. They're able to walk to David's flat to retrieve Julia's tablet and with the help of an expert, he deactivates the bomb. This scene was definitely the most intense scene in the whole season. I knew David was going to survive but that didn't make the scene any less gripping. David is finally able to locate Luke Aitkens as he paid a visit to CSI Loraine Craddock. This was very shocking because she was never on my list of suspects. In a shocking twist, it's also revealed that Nadia was the mastermind behind the bombs. She acted all innocent in the beginning and used David to accomplish her plans. David's name is eventually cleared and he's able to see Vicky and the kids. It turns out that his boss, Loraine was simply doing it for the money. She was paid by Aitkens to get Julia's itinerary while Nadia was built the bomb that was used.
I loved every single minute of Bodyguard and I particularly loved how intense it was. Richard Madden exhibited really great acting skills in the course of the show especially in the finale. The twist at the end made everything worth it and I applaud the writers for that. After Julia's death, I still refused to believe that she was actually dead. My theory was that she faked her death in cahoots with David to find out the masterminds behind the terror attacks. Her death was so shocking because it literally came out of nowhere. I also had another theory that David was the culprit because Julia stood for everything he was against. And then, I thought it was Vicky's mystery boyfriend was part of the conspiracy. Everyone forgot about Nadia and it turned out she was involved in a much bigger way. I love the fact that the big reveal wasn't what everyone expected. Julia was really dead after all.
Bodyguard is BBC's biggest Drama debut in over a decade and the finale racked up a whopping 11 million viewers which is a big win for BBC. Bodyguard is definitely on the list of my favorite shows in 2018 and I suggest you see it if you haven't. Bodyguard will premiere later this year on Netflix.
