Review- Lara and the Beat (2018)

Lara and the Beat is a coming of age movie about the young and beautiful Giwa sisters caught in the center of a financial scandal with their late parents' Media Empire. The sisters are forced out of their privileged bubble, and must learn to build their own future - through music and enterprise - to salvage their family's past. After getting disappointed time and time again with Nollywood, I had no hype whatsoever about Biola Alabi's music themed Rom-Com. I didn't want to get my hoped up and then get let down for the 100th time, so I went to the cinema hoping and praying that my hope for Nollywood doesn't die after the credits roll Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised at how the movie turned out. This is Seyi Shay & Vector ’s first starring role and I was really impressed with their performance. They weren’t perfect, but they did a great job playing the lead roles. I just wish Seyi Shay’s Lara was a little less cartoon-ish. I loved Somkele

Suits Begins a New Chapter Without Meghan Markle & Patrick J. Adams

When it was announced that Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams were leaving Suits, I was really bummed out because I truly loved their story line and wasn't ready to see the it end. I kept wondering how Aaron Korsh and the writers were going to come up with story lines to keep the viewers as invested as they were during the last seven seasons and adding Katherine Heigl to the cast didn't make me feel better. But, after seeing the eight season premiere, I have a different opinion about this new chapter and it's a good one.The season picks up right where we left off last season with Harvey and Robert Zane having a conversation after Mike and Rachel's wedding reception. They discuss the firm and the next steps to take concerning the Managing Partner position.    During the course of the episode, we're introduced to Heigl's character, -Badass-no-nonsense-lawyer-who-cleans-up-Zane's-mess- Samantha Wheeler and before the end of the episode, she succeeded

Review- Skyscraper (2018)

10 years ago, FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) looses his left leg below the knee during a hostage situation in Minnesota. Now wearing a prosthetic limb and happily married to Sarah, with whom he has twins, Henry (Noah Cottrell) and Georgia (Mckenna Roberts), he sets out for a meeting with Zhao Long Ji (Chin Han) the architect behind The Pearl, a massive skyscraper that he has been helping design and construct. The Pearl is considered the safest building in the world but it suddenly goes ablaze moments after Will's meeting with Ji. Will becomes the prime suspect and he has to somehow clear his name and rescue his family who are trapped inside the building.   For the past few years, we've been seeing virtually the same movies from The Rock. From Bay Watch to San Andreas and Rampage , they all have similar plots. The Rock has to save the day! It's becoming a bit tiring especially when the movie doesn't particularly have a fantastic p

Best TV Shows of 2018 (So Far)

The year is half way gone and now is the time to list out my favorites. So far, 2018 has been such a good year for TV with the premiere and return of so many amazing shows. From Benedict Cumberbatch in Patrick Melrose to Christine Baranski in The Good Fight and Donald Glover in Atlanta , it's been a roller coaster.  Here's a list of six of my favorite shows far,   6. THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE-AMERICAN CRIME STORY  The first season of Ryan Murphy 's American Crime Story was phenomenal and it set such a high bar for the second season. Unfortunately, It wasn't as good as the first but I still enjoyed watching mostly because of the acting from Glee 's Darren Criss who I think deserves an Emmy for his performance. This story was more about Versace's killer, Andrew Cunnanan than Versace himself and Criss outdid himself as the psycho killer. 5. THIS IS US (Season 2)   This Is Us is one show I never expected to fall in love wit

The Sophomore Season of The Handmaids Tale Comes to an End- Review

This season of Hulu’s The Handmaids Tale has been very emotional and intense. June went from almost getting her freedom (twice) to being back at the Waterford’s. Season one of what I consider the best thing to happen to TV premiered in 2017 and after bingeing all 10 episodes, I was in shock of how perfectly scripted it was. The acting from the likes of Elisabeth Moss , Yvonne Strahovski , Alexis Bledel , Joseph Fiennes and Madeline Brewer solidified its position in the TV world and in my heart. I spent the next year thinking about what could possibly happen in the second season because the first season was based solely on the book by Margaret Atwood but this season took a leap away from the source material and gave us something that was a bit more frustrating than the first.      It seemed like they took three steps forward and a massive five steps backwards. With the characters, you really couldn’t tell what version you’ll be getting in an episode. Serena would form an

Ant Man and The Wasp (2018)

In the aftermath of 'Captain America: Civil War,' Scott Lang is on house arrest and spends his time playing with his very adorable daughter Cassie (Abbie Ryder Fortson) as he counts down the days until he regains his freedom. He is confronted by Hope Van Dyne and her father, Dr. Hank Pym with a very urgent mission and they have to work together to save Janet Van Dyne who has been stuck in the Quantum Realm for 30 years.    Unlike the first film which I thought was very dull and forgettable, Ant-Man and The Wasp which is the 20th Marvel film was more fun and playful. I loved the cast and characters especially Evangeline Lily's Wasp. She was fierce and in control. I loved the fact that I was not emotionally invested like I was for Infinity War . It was pure entertainment from the beginning to the end. It relied heavily on the charm and wittiness of Paul Rudd and his character which I thought brought more life to the film. The funniest scene had to be when his suit malf

Amy Adams Goes Dark in "Sharp Objects"- Episode One Review

Image via IMDB.com     HBO's Sharp Objects focuses on Reporter, Camille Parker played by Golden Globe winner, Amy Adams, who returns to her tiny hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri after recently checking out of a psychiatric hospital to cover the mysterious murders of two pre-teen girls. Camille has hardly spoken to her very controlling mother or her 13 year old half-sister for years and going back to Wind Gap was the last thing she needed. She has a lot of demons of her own and going back home unravels a lot of puzzles from her past.     I'm not the one to shy away from watching a good murder mystery and the fact that this stars Amy Adams made it a very easy decision. Based on Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s first novel, the eight-part miniseries' first episode titled "Vanish" already has me hooked. Adams doesn't do a lot of talking but her body language and the flashbacks show that she's a troubled woman with a very dark past. It's okay to co
