Review- A Simple Favor (2018)

Based on the 2017 novel of the same name and directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy), A Simple Favor centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her mysterious & rich best friend Emily's (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town. Stephanie strikes a relationship with Emily’s grieving husband Sean (Henry Golding) and a lot of twisted secrets from Emily’s past bubbles to the surface leaving Stephanie to believe that her friend’s disappearance wasn’t by accident. I never really took A Simple Favor seriously even after seeing the trailer. I just expected it to be a regular film starring two actresses I loved but I was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out. I’ve always been a fan of Lively & Kendrick and I loved their chemistry together in this film. I loved how witty & twisted the story was and how they brought their characters to life. The story was predictable but not predictable in a way t

"Who Killed Julia Montague?"- Bodyguard Finale

BBC's Bodyguard has been one of the most satisfying series I've seen so far, this year. Over six episodes, they delivered a Limited Series that kept you on the edge of your seat and wondering what was next for Richard Madden's David Budd. David meets up with Julia's PA, Chanel, who was fired in the first episode because he was suspicious of her involvement in the bombings and he was right. She had a hand in it. Chanel set David up and he ended up getting ambushed and kidnapped by the leader of the criminal group, Luke Aitkens. The police are finally  able to piece the puzzle and they findd out that the ex-soldier who tried to shoot Julia was David's friend and this raises an alarm. They're convinced that Budd was indeed behind the bombing. Budd wakes up alone and realizes that he is strapped to a bomb vest with his thumb taped to the activating button. He is unaware that he is currently being investigated by the police and uses someone's phone to call for

Zainab Balogun is Obsessed with Chris Attoh in "Sylvia"- Review

Ever since Richard (Chris Attoh) was a kid, he used to see Sylvia (Zainab Balogun) in his dream and this continued every single night even during his adult life. Complications arise when Richard meets and falls in love with Gbemi (Ini Dinma-Okojie), a real woman, leading Sylvia to do everything in her power to destroy Richard's life. I would be lying if I said I didn't walk out of the movie theatre smiling and so grateful for everyone involved with this project. This year, I've seen a few Nollywood films but a lot of them left a bad taste in my mouth and made me wonder how and why the filmmakers were bold enough to release such films. I'm so glad I don't feel the same way with Sylvia. Even though it was very predictable and cliche, it didn't change the excitement that came with every scene. The execution of this Psychological Thriller was almost perfect and definitely a breath of fresh air for Nollywood. This is the film Nollywood filmmakers should emulat

Binge Worthy? Ozark Returns with a Darker and less Compelling Sophomore Season

After binge watching the first season of Netflix's Ozark, I was so ecstatic about season two and I kept counting down to the premiere. The Bryde's are still cleaning money for the cartel and their main goal in Season Two is to build a casino to make the money laundering easier and less suspicious. After Del's murder,  the Cartel sends their attorney Helen Pierce to town to shake things up a bit. Helen is pretty ruthless so lying or hiding anything from her would make things more complicated. Marty and Wendy struggle to balance their family interests amid the escalating dangers presented by their partnerships with the power-hungry Snells, the cartel and Ruth Langmore, whose father Cade has been released from prison. The stakes are even higher than before and The Bryde's soon realize they have to go all in by doing everything within their power to get the casino running before they can find a way to get out.      I loved everything about the first season of Ozark

Emmys 2018- Biggest Snubs and Surprises

TV's biggest night held on Monday and some of the winners included Amazon 's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel , HBO 's Game of Thrones , Netflix' s T he Crown and FX 's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story . There were a lot of surprising wins and snubs especially FX 's Atlanta and Hulu' s The Handmaids Tale . SNUB: ATLANTA - The first season of Donald Glover's Atlanta was good but they came back even better in the second season with fantastic acting from Glover, Zazie Beetz, Lakeith Stanfield and Brian Tyree Henry. And with standout episodes like the chilling "Teddy Perkins", I expected Atlanta to snag at least one award especially in the 'Lead Actor' category but HBO's Harry ended up with it. The fact that someone sat in the front row of the awards in a Teddy Perkins costume was probably my favorite moment from the Emmys and the biggest mystery of the night. SURPRISE: GAME OF THRONES - I'm obsessed with
