The Deuce Season One Finale- "My Name is Ruby"

Image via hrapersbazzar.com Set in the early 1970's Times Square, New York, the Period Drama tells the story of how the porn industry began and its eventual legalization. The Deuce is filled with so many rich characters and I fell in love with the show from the first episode. The writing is fantastic and so is the cast. My favorite is James Franco playing twin brothers Vincent & Frankie who both work for the Mob. Maggie Gyllenhal plays Eileen/Candy, a sex worker who eventually goes into the porn industry as an actress. She plays this role so well and at the end of the day, you're left praying that she really gets what she's looking for. The pimps  are as ruthless as ever and you can see how they hold so much over the girls that they find it so hard to leave. The Deuce explores the themes of violence, drug abuse, misogyny, racism and corruption.        So much went down in the finale and it ended with a shocker. It was really intense and filled with so much

Review- Happy Death Day (2017)

Image via imdb.com Happy Death Day is about Tree (Jessica Rothe), a typical sorority girl who isn't so nice to a lot of people. On her birthday, she wakes up in the dorm room of the guy she left a party with and before the end of the day, Tree is murdered by a weird person wearing a very creepy baby mask. The day keeps resetting and she keeps getting killed by the same person. It takes a toll on her body and she gets weaker each time. Tree has to find out who her killer is so she could stop the person and live to see a new day.  Image via imdb.com I was so hyped about Happy Death Day because Slasher movies can be fun to watch and I'm so glad they didn't disappoint with the content. Jessica Rothe was perfect for this role and I love how her character developed as the movie progressed. You hate her at the beginning but you start to feel really bad for her and wish she would find her killer. Even though the day kept repeating, it never became dull. The phases

Review- Geostorm (2017)

Image via imdb.com The governments of the world unite to create a program named "Dutch Boy" which surrounds the planet and is designed to save earth from natural disasters. After three years of protecting the planet, something goes wrong and it's left to two estranged brothers to solve the problem before a world wide geostorm occurs. After watching the trailer for Geostorm, I already knew what was going to happen. It's the same with most disaster films, but I saw it anyway. It's filled with so much CGI that I started having headaches from all the lights and explosions. Although,  I'll admit that the special effects were really good. I don't think there's any point making more disaster films because they all end up being the same, nothing new or out of the ordinary. The worst thing about Geostorm was the storyline which was filled with really terrible dialogues that would only make you laugh out loud and wonder why they made these actors star

Review- Body Language (2017)

Add caption Body Language follows Nick (Ramsey Nouah), a very mysterious man who comes into the life of a stripper, Tola (Tana Adelana) around the same time a serial killer is murdering people. I'm a huge fan of Nouah and to be honest, I saw this film mostly because he starred in it. There were so many scenes that could have easily been cut out of the movie and at a point, the slow motion became too much. Body Language was filled with so many tiny mistakes that only made the film laughable. After Anita takes her bath to go to bed, there's still a visible amount of makeup on her face. The same goes for Tola, she also went to bed completely made up. I'm still wondering when Nollywood will get this right. In the office scene with Nick, Tola mentioned that she had a fiancé but when they have dinner days later, Nick asks her if she had a boyfriend or fiancé. Body Language was predictable until the point where the killer was revealed. I honestly didn't see that coming

Review- Catch.er (2017)

Image via filmhouseng.com Abby Bello is a working class lady and the Vice President of a corporate company and during her anniversary celebration, she gets called into the office by her boss to go through a few errors found in the company's yearly report. When she gets back home, she encounters her colleague, Brume (Blossom Chukwujekwu), her brother Segun (Gbenro Ajibade) and her husband Tony (Alex Ekubo) and before the day ends, Abby is found dead in her home. The police launch an investigation into her death by arresting suspects that had motives for wanting her dead and it becomes a case of "whodunnit".  Catch.er boasts of an ensemble cast and they all delivered in their respective roles especially O. C. Ukeje. He has come such a long way after winning the Amstel Malta Box Office in 2006 and I always look forward to seeing any movie he stars in. Alex Ekubo has also improved so much in his acting and I really have to commend him on that. Beverly Naya and and Blos

Review- The Snowman (2017)

Poster via imdb.com The Snowaman is a Crime Thriller based on the book by Norwegian Author Jo Nesbø and it follows Detective Harry Hole (Michael Fassbender) and Katrine Bratt (Rebecca Ferguson) as they investigate the disappearance of a lady on the first snow of winter. Hole discovers that a serial killer is on the loose and together with Bratt, they piece together decades old cases and connect them to the new ones to try and figure out who the killer might be. I didn't read the source material but It's a best seller and the trailer looked like it was going to be something that would keep you on the edge of your seat but it ended up being a disaster. It was very dull and filled with a lot of unnecessary scenes that were only included to make it an almost 2 hour film. It felt like a really long episode of a Crime Show and not the ones that make you hyped and excited to find out who the killer is.  Image via imdb.com There's no character development which make

Binge Worthy- Netflix's Serial Killer Crime Drama "Mindhunter"

Image via imdb.com     This might sound a little weird to some of you but I'm the type of person that reads about serial killers a lot and I was really really excited when I watched the trailer for Mindhunters because I was 100% sure that it was going to be the type of show that I would love. I've always been interested in understanding why serial killers involve themselves in horrendous activities and this is where the shows comes in. It is based on the true crime book Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit written by John E. Douglas & Mark Olshaker. It's set in 1977 and focuses on 2 FBI agents and a Psychologist who interview serial killers in order to understand how they think and why they committed the act and apply their findings to solving ongoing and future cases. Jonathan Groff (based on John E. Douglas) plays Holden Ford, a special agent in the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, Holt McCallany is Special Agent Bill Tench (based on Robe

Jane The Virgin Season Four Premier- "Chapter Sixty-Five"

Image via TVLine.com     The fourth season of our favorite Telenovela Dramedy premiered last night and after the devastating loss of Michael, Jane is finally ready to move one. Last season ended with her running off to confess her feelings to Rafael but ended up bumping into her first love, Adam (Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey) who was returning the letter Michael left in his former apartment which was also Jane & Michael's former apartment. When Adam and Jane were just 19, they planned to get married after dating for eight months but when the day arrived, Adam ended things with Jane saying he couldn't go through with the wedding. Now that Michael's letter has brought them back together, it seems like it's meant to be. Adam is saying all the right things and Jane is smitten. Things aren't going so well between Jane & Rafael because they disagree about Mateo's school and Jane is angry about the fact that her baby daddy is sending mixed signals after he

Review- Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Image via imdb.com        Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), is tasked with hunting down and destroying old model replicants and when he's on a mission, he comes across  the remains of a once-pregnant replicant .  K is ordered to find the child and destroy all evidence related to it, leading him to discover that the child bears a connection to missing blade runner  Rick Deckard  (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. He goes in search of Deckard who he thinks might have the answers to some of his questions.       Ryan Gosling gives a fantastic performance as K and you could feel how much he was struggling with his identity. The CGI was beautiful and near flawless and the action was well shot and interesting to watch. This doesn't take away the fact that the Blade Runner sequel is excruciatingly long and boring. There were a few scenes where no one talked for at

The Flash Season Four Premiere Review- "The Flash Reborn"

Image via cwtv.com "The Flash Reborn" begins 6 months after the events of last season, since Barry walked into the Speed Force. Kid Flash has been fighting crimes since then and Iris is now leading what's left of the Star Labs team which means, she's now kind of like Felicity in Arrow. Harrison Wells 2.0 (Tom Cavanaugh) is no more after he died at the end of season three and Julian (Tom Felton) has "gone back to London". I'm really happy about this because it felt like they were focusing on too many characters last season, now they can focus on the real team Barry, Cisco, Cateline, Iris and Joe. The team was able to bring back Barry from the Speed Force but he returned as a completely different person. He couldn't really remember anyone of his friends and kept talking gibberish. It only took Iris putting herself in danger for him to snap back into reality and become The Flash again. I feel like this was too easy and quick. Barry was in the Spe

Review- Flatliners (2017)

Image via imdb.com Flatliners is a remake of the 1990 film of the same name about five Medical students obsessed with what lies in the after life. They explore the realm of near death experiences by stopping their hearts for short periods and reviving it back after a few minutes. They start having flashes of walking nightmares from their childhood and reflections of sins they committed. The experiences continue to intensify, and they begin to be physically beaten by their visions as they try and go deeper into the death experience to find a cure. Image via imdb.com Flatliners is a less that average film and there was nothing horror about it. It was bland with no character development making it hard for me to feel bad for the characters when their experiment goes wrong. I didn't even care if any or all of them died. I didn't see the original but I'm sure this wasn't a good remake. I'm still trying to understand why there are a lot of remakes and rebo

Review- The Women (2017)

I never saw a trailer for The Women, just posters everywhere and I was really interested in seeing it because two actresses I really loved were starring. The premise follows four married friends, Teni (Omoni Oboli), Ene (Kate Henshaw), Rose (Katherine Obiang) and Omoh (Ufuoma McDermott) who all have skeletons in their closet but act all innocent and pretend to each other. Omoh is going through financial problems with her husband and having an affair with her friends husband and she decides to invite all her friends for her birthday dinner and while they're trying to have a good time, different secrets are spilled and the party turns to chaos. The cast did really well with their roles and I liked the characters although I'm not sure some were the perfect fits for their roles. The story line, which explores the themes of friendships, relationships and marriage was excellent. It's easy for some audience members to relate to at least one of the characters, we see t

The Gifted Season One Premiere: "eXposed"

Mutants publicly co exist with humans but the mutants are still hunted by the police and treated as second class citizens and its premise follows the Strucker family. The father, Reed (Stephen Moyer) is a mutant prosecutor while the mother, Caitlyn (Amy Acker) is a nurse. They have a daughter Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and a son, Andy (Percy Hines) who are both mutants. Things go south when an incident at a school dance brings out Andy's powers and prompts Lauren to reveal her previously hidden powers. This becomes a serious problem for the Strucker family because they immediately have to go on the run from the government's Sentinel Services, an organization with the aim of capturing mutants. Reed desperately seeks help from Marcos (Sean Teale), who is part of the mutant rebellion.  Image via ew.com    The pilot was pretty good and the performanc
