Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

Poster via imdb.com So far, Michael Bay's Transformers have always gotten bad reviews but this one has seen the worst yet, with a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 159 reviews and 28/100 on Metacritc based on 46 reviews. So here's the plot, about 1600 years, the first transformer on earth gave a wizard, Merlin,  a Staff to defeat evil. In the present day, the wrong set of transformers are trying to get a hold of it to rebuild their planet. It's left to Cade Yeager (Mark Whalberg), Viviane Wembley (Laura Haddock), Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and his TRF members to save earth. Image via imdb.com The Transformers series has always received bad reviews from the critics but that doesn't stop them from making more. The last Transformers wasn't amazing or fantastic but it was way better than this one. I tried my best to really like this movie because of my love for Mark Wahlberg but this doesn't cut it at all. One thing

Behind The Wheels (2017)

When I heard about this film and the plot, I felt it was something a lot of people needed to see but after watching, I can't say I feel the same way. Behind the Wheels follows the story of Jimoh, Elijah, their tanker driving crew and how they are constantly maltreated by those in authority while they take their trips. It also talks about how little they are paid and how things need to improve for them. When the first scene rolled in, I knew this movie wasn't going to be what I expected it to be. First, the plot had a very terrible flow. I understand that the writer was trying to pass across a message but it ended up being muddled up into one big pile of confusion.  Image via xplorenollywood.com They didn't need to go with the flashback technique. They tell us what happens to the main character 2 minutes into the film which would make almost anyone not interested in this movie. I'll confess, I almost left the theater 15 minutes in, but I was determined t

Power Season Four Premiere-"When I Get Out"

Image via entetainmentweekly.com The last season of STARZ's Power ended with Angela arresting Ghost in Truth. This was the worst thing that could happen to Ghost. Thee fact that it was totally unexpected and for a crime he didn't commit made everything more confusing. This season continues from where last season ended. Ghost is finally in jail and while he's trying to prove his innocence in court, his son Tariq is up to no good with Kanan aka Slim. There's so much going on and it's left to Tasha to hold the family together. Tommy is now the new connect -with Milan dead- and he doesn't trust Dre's ways. He thinks Dre is hiding something and I know Tommy will definitely find out soon.  Image via Indiewire.com I'm already hooked with the first episode and I know the rest of the season is going to involve a lot of suspense.  According to a CNN interview with Show Runner Courtney A. Kemp , this season is going to be filled with a lot of t

Best TV shows of 2017 (So Far)

There have been so many good shows this year, both the new ones and a few that returned. I'll admit, sometimes I struggle to keep up because there's so much to watch and very little time and with so many shows popping on our TV screens everyday, I wish I could add a few extra hours to a day just so I could finish my favorite shows. The year is gone half way so I decided to put together ten of my favorite shows so far and I'm pretty sure this list would be modified by the end of the year because there's still a lot coming to TV during the remaining part of the year.  10. Orange Is the New Black Season 5 (Netflix) This season of Orange is The New Black focused on the riot and how to improve the Litchfield prison system after the deaths of one of the major characters. This show has never disappointed the viewers every season by bringing out binge worthy episodes which literally leave you wanting more. This season was no different. 9.SHOTS FIRED (FOX) Sa

Isoken (2017)

Poster via imdb.com Dakore Akande stars as Isoken, a 34 year old woman who has a very successful career and a beautiful family but the fact that she doesn't have a husband or even a boyfriend is a cause for concern for some of her family members, especially her mother. At her younger sister's wedding, her mother introduces her to Osaze (Joseph Benjamin). He's successful, comes from a good family and is an Edo man which makes him a good candidate for Isoken, especially in the eyes of her mother. Isoken meets Kevin (Marc Rhys) in a very embarrassing way and she begins to fall in love with him. He's everything she wants but she knows her family, especially her mother would not be happy with the fact that he's not an Edo man and Caucasian. She's left with the choice of following her heart or pleasing her family.  Image via nigerianmovienetwork.com In our society today, especially here in Nigeria, no matter how successful a woman is, the fact that sh

Binge Worthy: The Handmaid's Tale Season One Review

Image via imdb.com The first time I heard about The Handmaids Tale, I wasn't sure it was something I would be interested in seeing but I was encouraged by someone so I gave it a try and it has quickly topped my list for one of the best shows ever created for TV. This Hulu Drama is an adaptation of the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood about a dystopian country named Gilead (former United States) ruled by a twisted militaristic totalitarian government. In Gilead, women are not allowed to work or own property. The fertile women are taken to the houses of some of the elites who are not able to have children. The job of these Handmaids is to get pregnant by their commanders. Once they have the child, they are taken to another home and cycle continues. Elizabeth Moss plays Offred, a Handmaid who is trying to survive so she could one day reunite with her daughter who was taken from her.  Image via imdb.com This show, which comprises of ten episodes was mind bl

Binge Worthy: Orange Is The New Black Season Five Review

Image via dailyexpress.com I know binging a show can be a lot of work, but if it's a good show like Netflix's Dramedy Orange Is The New Black, best believe you'll be done in no time. After the death of Poussey at the end of season four, tensions rose among the inmates due to the fact that Warden Joe Caputo didn't bring the justice needed against Officer Bailey. The season ended with Daya pointing a loaded gun to Officer Humphrey while the other inmates cheered her on to shoot him. This season Daya shoots him in the leg and this is the beginning of all their problems. The riot escalates and the prison guards, including Caputo are taken hostage. The prisoners are finally able to air their grievances through Taystee who speaks to the press live and through YouTube videos about what went down inside the prison. The riot ends in a terrible way, the prisoners are split into two and placed in different buses.  Image via popsugar.com Throughout the show, the major

The Mummy (2017)

Poster via imdb.com The Mummy is a reboot by The Dark Universe of the 1999 classic movie of the same name starring Brendan Frasser and Rachel Weisz. This one stars Tom Cruise as Nick Morton, a former US military officer, New Girl's Jake Johnson as Chris Vail and Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halsey. Jenny, who's an archeologist arrives at the tomb to investigate and they end up waking up the mummy. They put the coffin on a plane and on the way, Chris gets possessed by Ahmanet's power and stabs Colonel Greenway (Courtney B. Vance). He also tries to stab Nick but he shoots him dead and the plane gets attacked by Crows causing it to crash. Before it crashes, Nick gives the parachute to Jenny. He wakes up in a morgue and starts seeing his dead friend

House of card: Season Five Review

Image via theatlantic.com When House of Cards premiered in 2013, it was such a breath of fresh air and it gave you sort of an insight of what really went on in the minds of the politicians and those running the White House. I love the chemistry between Kevin Spacey and Robin Right who play their characters so well. I felt so bad for Will Conway after he lost the election, but what did you expect? The Underwood's always win! A few people were also killed during this season, Aidan Macallan, LeAnne Harvey and Tom Yates. I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they killed these people, it'll definitely come back to them some time in the future. Mark is also going to use the fact that he took care of Tom Yates' body as leverage against Claire, which he already did when he asked to be made Vice President. We were introduced to Mark Usher and Jane Davis this season and they've already been welcomed into the Underwood fold while Cathy Durant has been taken

House of Cards: Season Five Recap

This is a recap of the fifth season of Netflix's House of Cards and it contains a lot of spoilers so don't go beyond this point if you're yet to see the season. Last season ended with Claire and Frank watching the execution of James Miller, the hostage taken by some radicalized American citizens who pledged their allegiance to ICO. Before the episode ends, Claire breaks the fourth wall by looking into the camera with Frank. In this moment, I knew Claire was gone for sure. She had always been a schemer like Frank and she showed this trait this season. In the beginning of the fifth season, they were getting closer to the elections and Frank together with his loyal Chief of Staff Doug set out a massive cyber attack through hacker Aidan Macallan. The attack slows down the Internet and wipes out thousands of files and they pin the attack on ICO.  Image via comingsoon.net On Election Day, the turnout at the polls are really low and the Underwood's know they're goin

Baywatch (2017)

Image via imdb.com Baywatch is a remake of the 1989 TV series of the same name and this remake stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Mitch Buchannon who would do anything to save The Bay. He and his team of lifeguards Stephanie Holden (IIfenesh Hadera), Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario), CJ Parker (Kelly Rorhbach) and Ronnie Greenbaum (Jon Bass) work together to save lives on the beach. Matt Brody (Zac Efron) who is a Olympic swimming champion is recruited to become a lifeguard as community service for puking in the pool. Initially, he doesn't want to help out but eventually they're able to take down the drug dealer Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra). Image via imdb.com I think all the actors did excellent jobs, I particularly loved watching Priyanka Chopra as the villain. Each character developed as the movie progressed and it also had a few funny scenes. With Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Identity Thief) as the director, I actually expected it to be funnier a

Wonder Woman (2017)

Image via imdb.com I was super hyped to see Wonder Woman after seeing the promotional photos and the trailer, but after 2 hours and 21 minutes of sitting through it in the theater, I'm not convinced it's as superb as a lot of people say it is. Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman is more of an origin story of Princess Diana, daughter of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. In the beginning of the film, Diana who's currently working at the Louvre in Paris gets a message from Wayne Enterprises of a picture of her, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and three of their friends after they saved a village from the Germans during the First World War. She recalls her past and how she was born and raised in Themyscira, home to the Amazons, a race of female warriors who were created to protect humans against the corruption of Ares, the God of war. Diana meets Steve, an Allied spy and together they leave Themyscira to help stop the war.  Image via imdb.com Wonder Woman is as cliché
