Review-My wife and I (2017)

After Ebere (Omoni Oboli) and Toyosi (Ramsey Nouah) visit Pastor Theophilous (Sey Law) to seek counsel for their marriage, he prays for them and the next day, they wake up in each other's bodies. They are forced to have each other's lives while searching for a way to switch their bodies back. The whole body switch story has been done like a million times but probably not in Nollywood because this is the first I'm seeing and it wasn't bad at all. I was a bit excited to see this film not because of the story, which wasn't anything new, but because of Nouah and Oboli who are two of my favorite Nollywood actors and they both played their roles perfectly. They team up again after starring in Kunle Afolayan's "The Figurine" 10 years ago.  Almost every Nollywood film I see always has a problem with makeup. Oboli woke up almost every morning with complete makeup on here face. Some of the scenes, especially the ones with Seyi Law were totally unneces

Game of Thrones Season 7 finale recap- "The Dragon and the Wolf"

WARNING!! Major Spoilers ahead!! Sunday nights won't be the same for the next couple of months because the seventh season of Game of Thrones is over!! After teasing us for so many seasons, winter finally came! At the end of the sixth season, Cersei killed most of her enemies and after her son committed suicide, she crowned herself Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She became more determined to take down anyone who challenged her power and this included Daenerys and her allies. The season was a good one for House Stark, they took back Winterfell and the Stark kids finally reunited this season after so many years apart, but they all returned as different people. Sansa became a bit more intelligent than she was in the previous seasons, Arya became an assassin and Bran became the Three Eyed Raven. After escaping from the Iron Islands with a hundred ships,  Yara and Theon pledged their allegiance to House Targaryen but they were attacked by Euron who kidnapped his niece and took her t

Not Binge Worthy- Marvel's The Defenders

Image via imdb.com When the trailer for "Marvel's The Defenders" was released, I was a bit excited but after painfully watching 8 episodes of the Netflix Miniseries, I'm just pissed they created the show. The Defenders follows Daredevil ( Charlie Cox ), Jessica Jones ( Krysten Ritter ), Luke Cage ( Mike Colter ) and Iron Fist ( Finn Jones ) as they come together to save New York City. It  felt more like a continuation of Daredevil & Iron Fist and maybe It would have been better if it had an entirely different story. I'm just glad it was 8 episodes and not 13 because I don't know how I would have been able to finish. I actually wish they made it into 3 or 4 episodes because 8 episodes felt like 24. There was nothing scary about the villains and they were just plain & boring. I hated the first season of Iron Fist to the point where I just kept laughing at how ridiculous the story and plot holes were. I'm pretty sure whoever wrote Iron Fist ha

Review- Detroit (2017)

Poster via imdb.com A police raid in Detroit in 1967 results in one of the largest race riots in United States history. The story is centered around the Algiers Motel incident , which occurred in Detroit, Michigan on July 25, 1967, during the racially charged  12th Street Riot . The riot becomes extremely violent and the National Guard and Army are approved by the Governor to help with the situation. The events that took place in the motel led to the death of three black men and the brutal beatings of nine other people: seven black men and two white women.  Going into the theater, I honestly didn't know what to expect because I didn't read about the film. I only saw the trailer and was excited John Boyega (who reminds me of a young Denzel Washington) and Anthony Mackie were going to star. Everything about this film was on point. The script, the directing and the acting was great and the characters were played by the perfect people. I feel like Will Poulter deserves an

Review- The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)

Poster via imdb.com From the trailer and the  poster which shows Ryan Reynolds carrying Samuel L. Jackson is a spoof of the poster for The Bodyguard (1992) where Kevin Costner is carrying Whitney Houston,  I already knew this movie was going to be a hit so I was a bit surprised to see the the low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes . What were they really expecting?  So here's the story, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), a top bodyguard is hired to protect a hit man who must testify against a dictator at the International Court of Justice in Amsterdam. Image via vox.com  They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial on time. This story is pretty much predictable and you already know how it ends 15 minutes in, but it was still fun to watch.  The best thing about this film is the chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds . Such movies only work when you have a great cast playing the right characters and The Hitman's bodyguard works

Review- Banana Island Ghost (2017)

Image via pulse.ng A man has an accident and when he meets God, he asks for a chance to find his soulmate before going to heaven. God's grants his wish but gives him 3 days to find his perfect soulmate. He finds himself drawn to the most unlikely person and they both have to work together and survive everything thrown at them within 3 days.  I'll be very honest, I wasn't excited to see Banana Island Ghost. I had to literally force myself, mostly because a few people were asking for my review but at the end of the day, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The cast was alright even though I wasn't really comfortable with Chioma Omeruah (Chigul) playing the lead role, she still did a good job. I don't think the 2 scenes with Damilola Adegbite were necessary to the plot and Dorcas Shola Fapson's scene at the office looked like a Coca Cola commercial. I also noticed that they were doing too much with the ads. You can advertise a product in a movi

Review- Snatched (2017)

Image via imdb.com After her boyfriend dumps her on the eve of their exotic vacation, Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) persuades her mother, Linda (Goldie Hawn) to travel with her to Ecuador. While on the trip, they get kidnapped and they realize that working through their differences as mother and daughter is the only way to escape the jungle adventure they have fallen into. To be honest, I never felt like this movie was going to be fantastic but I saw it with an open mind. The jokes were recycled and hearing the same vagina jokes from Schumer got really annoying. I've honestly never found her funny. I won't deny, I had a few laughs here and there but it wasn't anything worth remembering. It was also difficult to relate to the duo mostly because of the poor writing.  Image via imdb.com  Even if Schumer was replaced with another actress, it still wouldn't have made the movie better. Hawn hasn't been on the silver screen in about 15 years and she ends up do

Review- Hakkunde (2017)

Poster via imdb.com Hakkunde follows the story of Akande ( Kunle Idowu ), a long-time unemployed graduate who decides to relocate to Kaduna from Lagos when a job opportunity presents itself. His expectation is however cut short and Akande must make a decision to either learn to survive or return back to failure.  I was really looking forward to seeing Idowu aka Frank Donga play a more serious  role and he actually did a very good job with it. I also loved the supporting cast which included Maryam Booth (Binta), Issa Bello (Alhaji Sule) and Raham Sadau (Aisha), they did an amazing job.  Image via imdb.com This plot is very original and I like the fact that they tried to focus on the struggles of an unemployed Nigerian graduate, but along the line, I became confused what message they were trying to pass across. Was it unemployment, drug abuse or sickle cell awareness? I also don't understand why Seyi Law and Ali Nuhu are on the film's poster, the former was in

Review- The Dark Tower (2017)

Image via imdb.com  The Dark Tower is based on the book of the same name by Stephen King. It combines elements from 8 novels with Idris Elba playing Roland Deschain , the Last Gunslinger who has been battling Walter O'Dim , the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) and trying to stop him from toppling the Dark Tower which holds the universe together. I don't know if it's the fact that I had really high expectations for this film but I was a bit disappointed. I never read any of the books but that shouldn't have stopped me from enjoying it. I was particularly excited to see two actors I really love on screen together, but at the end of the day, they were the only good things about this film because they both killed their roles.  Image via imdb.com I try not to read reviews before going to see a movie, only the scores and The Dark Tower scored really low on Rotten Tomatoes with 18% and 34/100 on Metacritc . Even after seeing this, I still went into the thea

Review-Girls Trip (2017)

Image via imdb.com Going into the theater,  I knew Girls Trip was going to be good but It was amazing! The plot follows Fo ur lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival & they rekindle their sisterhood. The trip contained a lot of dancing, drinking, drugs, brawling, hook ups and romance which strengthened their bond. This movie was hilarious from the beginning till the credits rolled.  Image via comingsoon.net The cast was fantastic and they fit their roles perfectly, with Dina played by Tiffany Haddish being my favorite. I can't think of anyone who would have killed this role better than she did. It's as if she was born for the role, she delivered every line perfectly. The supporting cast which consisted of Mike Colter , Kofi Siriboe , Larenze Tate and Kate Walsh were also excellent. The major theme of Girls Trip is Friendship and it felt true because of how a lot of people could relate with at least one of the characters. T

Review-Baby Driver (2017)

Image via imdb.com Amazing! Sleek! Thrilling! Baby (Ansel Elgort) is a young getaway driver who has Tinnitus and uses music as his means of escape. He has to work for the crime boss, Doc (Kevin Spacey) and uses his talent behind the wheels to get the robbers to safety. However, just when Baby thinks he is finally free and clear to have his own life with his new girlfriend, Deborah, Doc coerces him back for another job. Everything and Everyone he cares about are placed in danger, he has to face the music and get himself out of the terrible situation. Ansel Elgort was just perfect for this role, the way he vibes with the music and the way he worked the cars during the getaways was just amazing. He looked really good doing it!  Image via imdb.com The action scenes were so thrilling and some of them really brought me to the edge of my seat. The cast was amazing and I loved every one of them, especially Ansel Elgort and Jon Hamm. I think Elgort really shines in his role and

The Sinner- Pilot Review

Image via imdb.com The new USA Network drama which premiered Thursday, August 2, didn't waste anytime getting straight to the action. In the first few scenes before the murder, we see Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel), a married woman with a kid who seemed like she had a few demons she was fighting. She goes on a beach trip with her family but ends up committing a very horrific act by stabbing a man to death in front of her husband and son. She's left surprised and has no idea what pushed her to do this. The investigator attached to the case becomes a bit obsessed and is determined to dig into her past and figure out why she did what she did.  Image via imdb.com The Sinner is based on the best selling German novel of the same name by Petra Hammesfahr and the story isn't about "who committed the crime?", we already know who did it, the question is "why"? The episode was quite gloomy and & through flashbacks, it becomes bvious that Cora is stru

Binge Worthy- Jason Bateman Goes Dark in "Ozark"

Image via imdb.com After Netflix released the trailer for Ozark starring Jason Bateman ( Arrested Development, Horrible Bosses ) and Laura Linney ( Love Actually, The Truman Show ), I knew it was something that would be worth watching. Ozark follows the story of a Chicago based financial adviser, Martin Byrde, who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest Mexican drug cartel. When things go bad with the cartel, he moves his family from Chicago to the lake region of the Missouri Ozarks to start a new life and find different ways to launder money.  Image via netflix  This Netflix Drama is very dark and gripping from the first scene. The cast is also perfect, especially Linney who plays Marty's wife, Wendy. She's very brilliant and finds different ways to improve the money laundering business. Linney stands out in her character as the not so innocent wife of a money launderer. One thing I absolutely love is the fact that this is a totally diffe
