Dwayne Johnson stars as Primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily
intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in
his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue
genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging
creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly
altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across
North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with
discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an
antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not
only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that
was once his friend.
I've always been a huge fan of Dwayne Johnson and I never turn down the opportunity to see his films. I'm always down for whatever he's cooking and even though it scores 1% on Rotten Tomatoes, I'll still see it with joy. I think he's one actor that can sell the most ridiculous films to audience members. To be honest, I wasn't really interested in seeing Rampage mostly because of the whole Gorilla story line. I've never been a fan of movies that included Gorilla's because it just looked really weird to me. Anyways, I went ahead and saw Rampage and I thought it was a pretty descent film. Not a lot of movies based on video games make a lot of sense but to an extent, Rampage did. I didn't think there was anything spectacular about the story line but I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing from a movie based on a video game so I just went with the flow. It was filled with a lot of action with really good CGI. Naomi Harris did a good job as Davis' side kick, Malin Ackerman and Jake Lacy were great as the villains and it was a delight watching Jefferey Dean Morgan. Rampage is very loud and filled with a lot of gory scenes. It also had a bit of humor which I absolutely loved. This is the type of film you see on a big screen, it was fun and entertaining. And yes, it's a very forgettable film because the story isn't something out of this world. At the end of the day, it wasn't a horrible film but it wasn't fantastic either.
RATING 5/10
