Homeland is back people!!! Before season 7 premiered last night, I thought about how the show would look without my beloved Quinn. My mind always flashes back to his death and I get so angry. I still don’t understand why they had to kill his character like that. The most painful thing is that he died protecting the evil President Keane who according to Carrie is a fascist and I couldn’t agree more. Carrie and Frannie are now living with Carrie’s sister, Maggie, her husband Bill who works for Keane’s Treasury Department and their 16 year old soon-to-become-an-activist daughter, Josie. I still don’t understand how Josie became so big. Wasn’t she a little girl the last time we saw her? Apparently, Saul and about two hundred Intelligence Agents are still locked up in jail. Carrie tells her sister that she’s going for a job interview but that’s just a cover for her to do what she does best. Being a spy! After getting Senator Paley (Dylan Baker) on board with witness protection, Carrie puts on a wig to meet up with Dante Allen (Morgan Spector), an old colleague and her source who’s part of the team in investigating the 200 agents.
Brette O’Keefe, the political journalist with a very loud mouth has been on the run after suggesting that the Assassination attempt was a hoax and a bid for the president to remain relevant. After checking into two different hotels and waiting for Dante, Carrie finds out that he’s being tailed so they move the meeting to another location. David Wellington goes to see Saul in jail and offers him a deal to become the National Security Advisor but Saul wants direct access to the President and the release of most of the detainees and David knows this won’t be possible. Carrie doesn’t tell Dante that Paley would join them so Dante is a bit pissed when Paley shows up. She tries to stop Dante from leaving but he pushes her to the floor and walks out. Our favorite computer guy, Max, set up camera’s in David’s house. Doesn't this take you back to Carrie's surveillance of Brody in season one?
Before the episode ends, we find out that McClendon has been poisoned and killed by no other person but Keane. Robert Knepper who plays McClendon was recently accused of sexual abuse but this was after his scenes were filmed so it makes a lot of sense that his story line was wrapped up. Of course, Claire Danes’ performance as Carrie is still spectacular but I can’t help but wish they rounded up with Keane's story line last season and move on to a fresh story probably in another country. For some reason I don't feel like this story line is interesting enough to be carried on to season seven. I also don’t see the relevance of Brett O’Keefe and I really wonder where they want to go with his story line. I’m really hoping they do something different this season that would replace the pain of losing Quinn. Homeland may have a few issues but it’ll always be entertaining to watch. It was a pretty descent way to kick off the season. Its not as chaotic and gripping as I would have loved it to be but its still a bit intense and I honestly wouldn't mind at least two or three more seasons of this Spy Thriller. That's how much I love this show. A new episode of Homeland airs next Sunday.
