Deepwater Horizon is a true life movie based on the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig on April 20, 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana. The movie starts with us meeting Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg), his wife Felicia (Kate Hudson) and their daughter. We also meet Andrea Fleytas (Gina Rodriguez) as she's dropped off at the heliport on a bike by her friend. Mike and Andrea meet one of their bosses, Mr. Jimmy (Kurt Russell) at the Heliport. They all board the helicopter and are taken to Deepwater Horizon. At the rig, there's a lot of talk and conversation about the condition of the rig.

 The BP executive, Donald Vidrine (John Malkovich) doesn't support the tests ordered by Mr. Jimmy and some of the employees including Jason Anderson (Ethan Suplee), Caleb Holloway (Dylan O'Brien) and Andrea Fleytas (Gina Rodriguez) are also very concerned about the readings of the test but the BP officials tell them to continue with their jobs.

 Mr. Jimmy goes to his room to take a shower after receiving an award from the staff and Mike was skyping with his wife Felicia when the explosion occurred. The first person to notice something was wrong was Caleb, but just a few seconds after he did, oil mixed with mud and water came bursting into the rig. This leads to a fire explosion leaving Mike and Caleb to try to rescue some of their coworkers and finding a way to get to safety.

After seeing the trailer of this movie, I knew immediately that it was going to be a good one. I mean we have Mark Wahlberg as one of the producers and the protagonist with Peter Berg as the director, it was definitely going to win the hearts of most critics. Wahlberg acted his role as one of heroes very well and so did Malkovich, who was sort of the villain of the movie. Deepwater Horizon, just like most true life movies focuses on the humanity of those involved and how the event actually happened not just what was shown on the news.

With 126 members on board, the explosion led to the deaths of 11 people. Although, the explosion involved a lot of people, the movie focuses on just a few of the characters. The movie was an emotional roller coaster for me especially the scene where the survivors of the explosion knelt to say the Lords Prayer and the scene where the workers were reunited with their family members and some were given the bad news that those they knew on board didn't make it. I must confess, I got teary eyed.

Caleb Holloway (Dylan O'Brien)

The sequence of events were well placed by Berg and the disaster was portrayed really well. Kurt Russell, Mark Wahlberg, Dylan O'Brien and Gina Rodriguez all dominate their roles and just like Berg's movie, Lone Survivor, also starring Mark Wahlberg, the movie honors the victims of the rig and their families. I would give this movie 1000% if I could, it was quite spectacular and showed people what most of these corporations are capable of doing just to cut costs. I for see a lot of awards for those involved.

1. If you know me, then you know I'm a HUGE fan of Mark Wahlberg! I loved him ever since I watched him in the Italian Job. He can do no wrong in my eyes.
2. This is the first movie starring the father daughter duo Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell.
3. The opening credits include the real life audio of the trial that took place after the disaster in 2010.
4. The oil rig was built for the movie and is one of the largest set piece ever built
5. Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg have previously worked together in the Lone Survivor which really drained me emotionally.
