Just like Joe was obsessed with Beck and then Love, I've been obsessed with You ever since it premiered on Netflix in December 2018 so I was counting down to its return last December and I ended up binge watching all 10 episodes in less than 48 hours. Its such a addictive show that you find it so hard to stop watching till the final episode and even after that, you just can't get it out of your head. Last season, Joe was in love with Beck and his love for her led to him kidnapping and finally killing her. At the end of season one, Joe's ex girlfriend Candice who he thought he killed paid him a visit and we found out at the beginning of season 2 that she planned to torture him by stalking him and eventually get evidence that would lead to his arrest. If only things could be so straightforward.
This season Joe moves to Los Angeles to hide from Candace and of course he gets a new target. Her name is Love Quinn and she works in Anavrin which is ....wait for it..... the same place Joe gets a job. The place is run by Love's super needy twin brother Forty who I absolutely love. Joe goes by Will in L.A. and his apartment building is managed by Delilah who has a rebelious 15 year old sister Ellie. All these characters eventually intertwine and Joe is in the middle stalking, kidnaping and murdering.
I sincerely loved how different this season of YOU was in comparison to the first season. Yes, there's a lot of stalking and killing but there's a lot more going on. With Ellie and Henderson, Candace and Forty, the real Will and Love, Joe had a lot on his plate. Penn Badly played the hell out of Joe. For some reason, I'd rather watch him as Joe than Dan. He looks so much better as a serial killer. Victoria Pedretti did an amazing job as Love and her character really surprised me at the end. Carmela Zumbado as Delilah and Jenna Ortega as Ellie were awesome together but my favorite character this season asides Joe was definitely Forty played by James Scully. Forty was a very complicated character who was way too dependent on his sister but he had a lot of comedic scenes and lines that cracked me up sometimes.
This season we got to see a bit of Joe's life with his parents and what eventually led him to thus path of always looking for someone to love. The flashbacks made everything make more sense and young Joe had a really sad childhood. Season Two is just as thrilling and chilling as season 1 or maybe even more. Again, we can't help but root for the psychopathic anti-hero even when we can all see how terrible he is. I couldn't get enough of Joe's narration and how he constantly tried to justify his actions by telling himself that everything he did was for love and Love even when it meant killing certain people. Joe's vision of himself as a good person is further complicated by the return of Candace who was determined to put Joe in the same position he put her. Season 2 is more intense, funnier and filled with a lot more suspense which made it absolutely BINGE WORTHY.
Here's my review of Season 1
