Review: Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk"

Image via imdb.com I'd been looking forward to seeing Christopher Nolan's (Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Inception) Dunkirk because he's one filmmaker that never disappoints with his work and he delivers on every level with Dunkirk. The war movie which is set in 1940 tells the story of a group of Allied soldiers from Great Britain, France & Belgium. They find themselves surrounded by the Germans on the beach of Dunkirk, France. The evacuation of almost 400,000 men becomes threatened when they are constantly attacked by the Germans. I'm trying so hard not to give too much of the movie away but I was blown away (no pun intended) by how beautiful this movie was.  Image via imdb.com The movie has a perfect cast and with no true lead character, they all stand out in their respective roles. The dialogue is minimal but the way they express the fear and emotion that comes with being part of a war is just amazing. There's no point where the movie becomes du...

Alter Ego (2017)

Alter Ego is Omotola Jalade Ekeinde's return to the big screen and she plays a successful lawyer who defends victims of sexual abuse and makes sure their molesters end up in jail. The other side of Ada is a nymphomaniac. She constantly struggles with these two sides because she was abused by a teacher at the age of 14. When she meets Mr Timothy, (Wale Ojo) a well known society man who is very involved in helping the poor, she thinks he's an angel sent from heaven only to discover that he's not who she thought he was.    I've been a huge fan of Omotola since I was a child and I was really excited for her return to the big screen. She delivered on her role and so did Wale Ojo who has quickly become one of my favorite Nollywood actors. The movie had a good beginning and a very weak ending which will definitely make you leave the theater a bit pissed. The story line was good at shedding more light on child abuse, rape and how the victims deal with it. I'm not ...

Being Mary Jane Season 4 Episode 11 Recap

Image via bet.com   The mid season finale of BET 's number one show Being Mary Jane ended with her sleeping with her producer and former enemy Justin ( Michael Ealy ) just when things were getting serious with Lee ( Chike Okonkwo ) while her best friend Kara ( Lisa Vidal ) got fired and went back to her professional baseball boyfriend Orlando ( Nicholas Gonzalez ).  MJ let's the truth out to Lee that she might have feelings for Justin which he obviously didn't take well. "You know, the silver lining in all of this is that we didn't have a kid together.  You’d be a terrible mom.” This line hit me in my guts! I can only imagine how MJ would have felt when he said that. She knew she let the best man she ever had leave her but she pushed it aside thinking Justin had the same feelings she had about their magical night together. News Flash! He told her exactly the opposite, saying he had a girlfriend and what they had was just sex. This broke MJ but she was ready t...

Picture Perfect (2017)

Picture Perfect follows the story of a fashion designer who meets an area boy when her car breaks down in a very dangerous place. He offers to watch her car all through the night but when she offers him very little for his services, he switches up on her and decides to set up shop just outside her work place. A lot goes down between them In the next few months that changes the course of things.  When I saw the trailer for Picture Perfect, I honestly didn't expect so much. Going into the theater, I was already turned off with how dull it looks visually but I eventually enjoyed watching.  This plot is something you can predict just from the trailer but it was still fun to watch. I couldn't get enough of Bolanle Ninalowo as Jobe. This role is totally different from anything I've seen him acting and I can't think of another actor who could have pulled this off perfectly. He did such an excellent job especially close to the ending where he got really emotional. He mad...

Shooter Season 2 Premiere Review

Image via cartermatt.com T he last season of USA's shooter was filled with so much suspense and intense action, I was a bit bothered with how the second season would play out considering the story line. Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillipe) was finally exonerated after being framed for the assassination of the President of the United States at the end of the season. This was such a sigh of relief because I would have hated it if they dragged it on to this season. The episode begins a year after the events of the last season and the Swagger family have moved to Texas to live a quiet life although Julie is having serious difficulties getting over what they went through last year. When he attends a ceremony in Germany to honor one of his friends in his former unit, things go south. Bob Lee and his old military group (including Isaac) are targeted and he takes it upon himself to find the people responsible. Image via fansided.com They didn't waste time to get straight to the...

Game of Thrones Season Seven Episode 1 Review: Dragonstone

Image via cnn.com After so many months of waiting, the seventh season of HBO 's Game of Thrones premiered last night, July 16. Personally, I've been anticipating the return of this show and I couldn't be more excited to see The Lannister's, Starks, White Walkers and The Mother of Dragons back on my screen.  So as we all know, Winter is finally here. Since the first season, most of what the characters talked about was the arrival of winter. The last season set in motion the activities that took place in the premiere. The opening scene, which included Arya murdering those involved in The Red Wedding, was very very shocking and satisfying to watch. It's obvious that Arya is out for blood and back on her kill list. She looked really bad ass walking away from the bodies.  Image via firstpost.com Jon Snow is now the King of The North with Sansa by his side, Bran is now The Three Eyed Raven and Sam works in a Library at The Citadel . Sam has not been one...

Suits: Season 7 Premiere

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the seventh season premiere of Suits. Don't go beyond this point if you're yet to see the episode. Image via cartermatt.com   Since the last season of suits ended in March, I've literally been counting down to the premiere of the seventh season. I've been such a huge fan of this show and the cast, I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching. The episode began with our favorite lawyer Harvey asking his Therapist, Dr. Paula Agard out on a date. This really bummed me out because I've been shipping #Darvey (Donna & Harvey) since maybe the third season, so I  was hoping the Therapist would say no, but she didn't.  Image via TVline.com Remember when Donna said she wanted "more" at the end of the last season? It turns out that what she meant by that was asking Harvey to make her a senior partner at the firm. Just like a baller, Donna handed her boss a cheque of half a million dollar...

Spiderman:Homecoming (2017)

Image via imdb.com Going into the theater, I knew Homecoming was going to be really good and what I watched matched my expectations. Tom Holland replaces Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman who is trying to balance his life as a high school student and a superhero. After fighting with the Avengers , Peter goes back to his life as a student but he wants to prove to himself and to his mentor Tony Stark/Iron Man  that he can fight more dangerous crimes instead of just being the friendly neighborhood superhero. He comes in contact with The Vulture ( Michael Keaton ) and he looks for every means necessary to bring him and his organization down. This new film takes us back to when Spiderman was just a regular innocent and naive teenager.  Image via imdb.com  To be honest I was a bit skeptical about Tom Holland playing the iconic superhero, but he delivered on every level. He was born for this role. Michael Keaton is such an amazing actor, he played his...
