There was so much buzz about Omoni Oboli's "Okafor's Law", especially because of the legal battle between Omoni Oboli & Canadia based writer Jude Idaba. I became really interested in seeing what the deal was with the movie. The story is about Chuks aka Terminator (Blossom Chukwujekwu) who places a bet with his two friends to prove Okafor's Law which says that once a man has sex with a woman, he can have sex with her again even though they break up or the woman gets married. Terminator goes on to prove this theory with Ejiro (Omoni Oboli), Tomi (Toyin Ai...) & Ify (Ufuoma Mc-Dermott). He ends up falling in love with Ejiro and they end up getting engaged. How cliche! Nollywood filmmakers are really stepping up their game and Omoni Oboli did a good job with this one but it wasn't worth the hype for me. It was an average movie.

The cinematography was on point and surpassed the usual Nollywood standard but the sound was just bad. It felt like the characters were doing voice overs and the people on the screen were just lip syncing. The casting wasn't perfect for me. I had major issues with Toyin Aimakhu who I felt was a bit stiff. She struggled with every scene and I don't think she was the perfect person for that role. How did Terminator fall in love with her? After about two weeks? After gazing at the stars? (We don't even do that in Nigeria, at least from what I know) They didn't have enough chemistry for him to suddenly fall in love with her and go crazy when she didn't have the same feelings for her. Toyin's best scene was when she had to speak Yoruba, asides from this, every other scene with her was a torture to watch. It felt like she was trying so hard to remember her lines. I would have preferred Kemi Akindoju in that role instead of casting her as Onome the assistant.

My favorite has to be Gabriel Afolayan who I think killed his role as Chuks aka Baptist. He nailed every line and wasn't trying too hard to be funny. The part I didn't get was when Tomi ran into Chuks & Ejiro at the Suit store. What was the point of that scene? I didn't leave the theater feeling like I saw a fantastic movie, just an average one. I'll give the dialogue 5/10. It felt so stif and not as witty as they were trying to make it seem. It doesn't hit the mark for me. Maybe it was all the hype about the movie but Okafor's Law isn't Omoni Oboli's best work, a good one, but not her best.
